Welcome to Dallas, Texas, and to the 2025 WICUDA Convention! It is an absolute honor to stand before you as the President of this esteemed organization.
Today, we gather to celebrate not only our diversity but also the rich tapestry of cultures that make up our community, with our overarching theme: “Bringing Visibility to the Mbum Heritage.” This is a crucial moment for us to shed light on the incredible traditions, values, and stories of the Mbum people, honoring their contributions to our shared cultural legacy.
Our goal during this convention is to emphasize the importance of taking care of the Queen Mothers, the revered matriarchs who serve as the backbone of our communities. They are the custodians of our culture, the keepers of our history, and the guiding lights for future generations. By elevating their voices and recognizing their vital role, we can ensure the preservation of the Mbum heritage for years to come.
Over the next few days, we will embark on a journey of discovery, learning, and connection. From enlightening workshops to captivating performances spotlighting Mbum culture, we have crafted a program that embodies our commitment to cultural visibility and community upliftment. I encourage each of you to engage wholeheartedly, share your stories, and connect with fellow attendees.
Let us take this opportunity to embrace our differences and find common ground. It is through our shared passion for culture that we can create lasting change and foster a sense of belonging in our communities.
I want to express my gratitude to our leadership- specifically my EXCO and the Convention committee chairs, sponsors, volunteers, and everyone who has worked tirelessly to make this event possible.
Your dedication is the backbone of this convention and should be celebrated.
As we kick off this remarkable gathering, let us open our hearts and minds to the beauty of collaboration. Together, we can inspire greater understanding, appreciation, and love for the Mbum heritage and the vital roles of Queen Mothers in our lives.
